Until the clothes do us part.
A furious bride has kicked her big sister out of her wedding ceremony after she turned up wearing “practically a wedding dress” on the big day.
Speaking to Reddit, newlywed Ashleigh hit out at her limelight-stealing brother, who she says “decided to test me in the worst possible way”.
“It’s exhausting, but I thought she would at least behave at my wedding,” the bride wrote. “We’ve never been close, she’s always tried to bring me together, even during family events.”
Ashley says she gave her dress code months’ notice and she “made it very clear: nobody wears white but me.”
“It was not negotiable,” she declared in her post on Reddit.
Her older sister then gave her a take on the standard request, saying the bride was “insecure” and too focused on outdated tradition.
“I told her that whether she agreed or not, she had to respect it,” Ashley wrote. “On the morning of the wedding, she showed up wearing a floor-length white lace dress. It was practically a wedding dress.”
“I was heartbroken and asked him directly what the hell he was thinking. She said, “It’s not that white, and besides, nobody’s going to care.”
Standing up for herself, the bride told her sister to change or get out, which led to a meltdown from her sister.
“She got mad at how I was ruining her day and stormed off, telling everyone I was a ‘bridezilla,'” Ashley wrote.
“So I told the staff not to let him come back unless he changed. She never came back, and now she’s telling everyone I broke up for good.”
Now, the bride is taking grief from her parents who kicked her sister out of the venue despite feeling the white dress “was a deliberate choice to sabotage my day”.
However, online, many sided with the bride to diss the dress.
“Your sister disobeyed your clear dress code and showed up in a white dress almost identical to a wedding dress,” one commented. “She was trying to steal the spotlight at your wedding. You were right to keep your boundaries and not let her ruin your day.”
“It is universally understood that white is reserved for the bride,” added another.
“Your sister clearly knew a white dress would be a problem: it’s famous, it was on the invite + you told her about it in person before and yet she did it anyway,” wrote a third.
